Welcome to our new homepage!

Here we go . . . the start of what is likely to be a very busy year in the Midwest for Scottish Highlanders as well as many Daichiel Dancers!

Dachiel Thistle started as Chelsea Highland Dancing through the local Community Education Department a few years back.  There was only mild curiosity at the time.  In the fall of 2006 however, I was fortunate to have met young ladies who dove enthusiastically into the tartan tradition.  These core children along with their parents are the backbone and energy that has caused our dance group to grow to triple its original size!  As all dance teachers and every coach knows - its that spark and energy that young people bring to a sport that keeps it alive.  The highland dance community is lucky to have such young and vibrant resources!

While the thrill of competition is thoughtfully remembered, my most cherished memories are those feelings that a young person has when they don't just dabble in a sport but become engrossed in it along with their family.  Attending festivals in Canada, in some ways reminds me of Harry Potter and the Quidditch Cup.  Our family enjoyed many a weekend in a tent, camping out at festival grounds in very small towns in Canada.  Falling asleep and waking to drums, pipes and thick Scottish brogues in very picturesque settings.  It was an experience!  All Highland Dancers should have such fond memories.  This is the goal of Daichiel Thistle!
